Brodu is a Maltese alternative band formed in 2011. The band was set up to record an album with songs composed by Mark Abela and the late Darren Gatt, which they released in 2014.
Brodu sing in Maltese and play rock music with influences from various musical genres Their first album called “ħabullabullojb” was recorded at Temple studios under the direction of David Vella (Rammstein, Beangrowers, Brikkuni etc.). Their songs are diverse and feature many Maltese artists: Justin Galea (Każinska, EKE), Nadine Axisa, Toni Spiteri “tal-ġebel”, Każinska, Herman Spiteri and Kim Farrugia from For Strings Inn, amongst others.
The last three songs on the album are in English and were written by the late Darren Gatt. Kim Farrugia, Herman Spiteri and Manuel Ciappara have recorded these songs together with Brodu. Though stylistically very different from the rest of the album, these were also included in the album which is a joint effort between Brodu and the late Darren Gatt.
Brodu are a few months away from releasing their second album which will be called “tfejt”. This album was also recorded and produced by David Vella at Temple Studios. Chris Mallia (Beesqueeze, ex Cable 35) has since joined the band on drums and backing vocals.
